The first thing you should do is record the dimensions of your closet. Measure your closet by width and height, and take the measurements with you when shopping for a closet organizer. Since many closets are approximately the same size, it's often easy to find an organizer that doesn't need to be cut or modified to fit.

If you've purchased a wire shelf closet organizer, you can easily control how many shelves there are and how close together they are. Install one shelf, or install lots of them. It's up to you! With this type of closet organizer, you will use a hook and brace system to install and anchor your shelves. The only challenges with this type of organizer are a bit of hammering and making sure your shelves are sturdy and level.

The other type of closet organizer you may purchase is a track mounted system. This kind of organizer features shelving standards that hang from a main rack. These standards are attached to a pre-leveled track, which means when you put in the shelves, you won't need to worry about leveling them. Attached to the standards are brackets in which the shelves will be placed.

With both types of closet organizers, you will need to attach the organizer to the wall using screws. You should definitely invest in a stud finder for easy placement. If there are no studs available, you can use anchors which expand or toggle bolts.
